Be Concerned Enough To Pray

Be Concerned Enough

To Pray

And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto theLORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace (Jeremiah 29:7).

As a Christian, you should be concerned about the affairs and wellbeing of your nation. This concern ought to inspire you to pray for the nation. And to pray accurately there’re basic things you need to understand. First is that the nation in which you live and function is a vehicle, and you’re on a journey in that vehicle. You may not be in the vehicle as a part of the engine, as it were, but you’re in the vehicle as a passenger.

Think about a ship, and you’re on board that ship, journeying somewhere. If the captain gets confused and announces that the ship had lost its bearing everyone on board would be in trouble. This is because they all trust the captain to steer the ship in the right destination. That ship can be likened to the nation where you live, and the captain and crew members the leaders. It’s your responsibility therefore to pray that the leaders of your country are yielded to God’s Spirit to guide them aright to steer the nation in the direction of His will and purpose.

Little wonder the Spirit’s admonition in 1 Timothy 2:1-3: “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour….” God’s desire is for all men to be saved; He wants His righteousness to rule men’s hearts and guide their thinking. This is the reason we must intercede for their hearts be opened and receptive to the message of the Gospel.

The only way to douse the spate of violence and social vices experienced all over the world, is when Christians rise to the challenge and take up the responsibility of prayer and preaching of the Gospel. We must pray that the Word of God will have free course, be glorified and have prevailing power in our societies.  Remember, whatever happens in your world affects you directly or indirectly, so bear the responsibility as well and set some time aside today to pray, and do this as often as possible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

I thank you for the privilege and opportunity to impact my nation positively through prayer. I decree that there’s peace, progress and prosperity within her borders, as the leaders are guided by your wisdom and fortitude to do your will,

in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
